Pittsburgh Spanish AcademyPittsburgh was once the center of America’s Industrial Age and dependent upon heavy manufacturing. The three rivers, which once created the boundaries of the city, have become part of the identification of the city in the eyes of the world. Pittsburgh has transformed itself into a major contributor in the cutting edge fields of informational technology, medical science research, advanced science and finance. Recent census figures show Pittsburgh as being home to nearly 5,500 Hispanic/Latino individuals, over 3,000 of which speak Spanish in the home. The culture of the area supports and welcomes this force in the economy and recognizes their role in the continued growth of the city. A wide array of opportunities support and enhance the newest members of the Pittsburgh community including the arts, education and social connections. An important part of the community is the Latin American Cultural Union whose goal is to cultivate and disseminate the diverse cultural and artistic talents of Latin American traditions. The Hispanic Center of Pittsburgh, an agency supporting the business and cultural needs of its members, sponsors events for children such as an annual SoccerFest at a nearby county park. Cinco de Mayo invites families and children of all ages to join together at a variety of restaurants to commemorate this important day in the history of Mexico. Why do you want your children to learn the Spanish language? Please share your comments in the form to the right. |
